Out With the Old, In With the New

31 December 2013

"the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry" - Robert Burns

While Mr. Burns was perhaps quite right, I still find myself looking to the future with expectation and anticipation. We certainly discovered that things didn't go as we planned for 2013...and that wasn't always bad. In fact, sometimes it was better than great. Some of the things we never planned for were our greatest blessings. And still, some of our great plans for the future were crumbled and left to dust.

As I sit typing and the minutes draw nearer for the new year, I find myself thinking on all that happened this past year and how it may differ in 2014.

What 2013 brought us, that we won't see in 2014...
...a move, or should I say 5, all over the country. We are quite content staying in one place, in our home, this year.
...a loss of job. This year seemed to be centered around our job, and that was taken from us. Here's to new opportunities and beginnings...and hopefully a long future at this new endeavor.
...a baby. Oh, our sweet I love him so. He was the greatest blessing, the bright shining spot in an otherwise difficult year. While we love both Jack and Karis dearly, there are no plans for more Williamsons this year.
...a few extra pounds. Just keeping it real here, folks. I'm not prescribing to a resolution, that would inevitably fail. But the stress our life has had the past few months didn't do a bit of good to help me lose baby weight. So, here's to a healthier and hopefully thinner 2014.

We do have so many incredible things to look forward to in 2014, we will have...
...a crawling baby
...then first steps
...perhaps first words
...starting preschool
...moving in to a big-girl bed
...potty training
...a new job for John
...settling in to our new normal

Wishing you and yours the very best this new year...Happy 2014!

  1. Happy New Year to you and your family. You all look so happy and the children are adorable. I don't know about your problems in 2013 as I've not visited your blog before but you have thankfully come through ok and I hope that 2014 will bring you peace and happiness. Don't worry about the weight. You'll probably find that it's the stress that has caused this or at least stopped you from losing weight. As if stress doesn't make you suffer enough it goes and adds another problem...weight gain!
I look forward to continuing to read your blog. Good Luck.

  2. So well said, and I'm so glad that our Creator was holding us all thru the ups and downs of life. Love you.
