Today is our 6th wedding anniversary.
I love this day, this month. I love fall.
But more than all of those things, I love this man.
And, I loved our wedding. I sometimes wonder if our wedding would be different if we did it now. Now, in our pinterest heavy world. Honestly, I don't think so. I was talking to a woman the other day who said 4 of the 5 weddings that she's been to this year were outdoor weddings in a barn-type of setting...and it was that way because of pinterest.
I said, well then I guess we were ahead of the curve. Pinterest didn't exist back when we got married, but that's what we did. I loved every single bit of it. We got married at a fabulous farm in the beautiful mountains that we love so much and call home.
It really was a DIY wedding...we made our own centerpieces and favors.
We did order our bouquets, and they were so beautiful.
I still love the way they looked.
I still love the way they looked.
We did the shepherds hooks and mason jar candles ourselves, which we still have.
They only got better looking as the day went on.
And, oh what a beautiful day it was. That morning it rained and rained. We didn't have a back-up plan, there was no tent that would magically appear in the event of rain. But, around 3pm, the skies cleared and were so pretty.
Instead of a guest book, we had guests sign quilt blocks and my fabulous MIL sewed our quilt together. It's still one of my favorite quilts she's ever made (which says quite a bit).
I carried an old Bible of my grandmother's with me as I walked down the aisle.
That was incredibly special for me.
That was incredibly special for me.
It was a perfect day...and it was our day.
John was absolutely obsessed with the Dukes of Hazzard growing up, so we ended up getting a General Lee as our get-away car. His childhood dream realized. Ha.
We rang the bell to call for dinner.
And, oh, our cake was so good.
I told you they only got prettier the later it got.
The little details were so important to me.
The barn glowed so beautifully at night.
So, when I look back, I wouldn't change a thing. I loved our day. I also love that we get to remember and revisit it every year.
And even more so, I love that I get to do life every single day with my best friend. I love that we now have two incredible, beautiful children that bring me more joy than I ever imagined. Our life is simple, it's not extravagant...but I love it. I look so forward to what the future holds for us.
Happy Anniversary John, I love you so!
Oh, by the way, this was in no way knocking Pinterest. I actually love it...and peruse most days. :)
This is absolutely gorgeous! And the quilt idea!? LOVE it! So special!
