Two Week Update

14 August 2013

Today my sweet little Jack is two weeks old! In some ways it feels like he's always been here, and in others we are still learning each other. One thing I know for sure is I love him more than I can stand and wouldn't want to be without him.
We had his two-week check-up today and he is a very healthy little guy.

Here are his specs:
Weight: 9lb. 2oz.
(honestly I wouldn't have believed this myself had I not seen the scale, I would have guessed somewhere between 8 and 8.5)
Also, if you're raising your eyebrows because you're trying to figure out how he gained 2lb 3oz in 2 weeks, you're not off-base there. Basically it's been determined that his initial birth weight was probably incorrect. Although 6lb 15oz is what is forever recorded in history, so that's what we are going with, it's probably not accurate. (In general we've had several issues with our hospital stay and postpartum 'stuff', but that's another post for another day.)
Length: 21 3/4 inches
He's grown 3/4" in the last two weeks.
He doesn't seem like a 9lb baby to me, he is still so tiny. For the first 10 days or so, he was wearing preemie size diapers. He is now able to wear newborn size. He is in all newborn size clothes. Anything in the 0-3 month range is like a huge potato sack on him. He's just a sweet, tiny thing.
Jack loves to cuddle with Mama...and I don't mind a bit. I think he's a little bit of a Mama's boy. One of my dear friends who had a girl first and then a boy told me there is something special about having a boy, and the relationship that a Mama has with her boy...and my goodness, was she right!
Even in just two weeks I can see that.
He is a GREAT sleeper! He has always slept much more than his Big Sissy did; no complaints here! (Here he is laying with me as I type this very post.)
He is so sweet and very accommodating, which is so nice being the second child. However, he cannot stand to take a bath. Oh. My. Word. This child will scream like you wouldn't believe if you put him in the bath...again, not at all like Sissy. For the first week or so he really didn't like getting his diaper changed, but he's accepted that as a regular part of life now, and typically allows us to do it without complaint.
Curious how Karis is feeling about Jack two weeks in?!?
Well, this is still happening...every. single. day.
And she still stays right next to the stroller, as a proud protector.
Lately, she's even trying to take on a more helpful role with the stroller.

Karis calls him "Shack" or "Baby Shack" all the time. She also loves to say, "Hey Buddy" to him. Apparently without realizing it we have been calling him Buddy quite a bit. It's so cute when she says it! Also, if he cries she's very good at telling him "Shhh."
And in general, life is good for this little girl. She has had a LOT of fun with the visitors we've had lately, but I decided that will be another post on it's own.
Today after we took Baby Brother to the doctor we went up to the mall so she could play.
Then we walked over to Bass Pro Shop so she could look at all the fish in the aquarium. (These two things have become a pretty regular event for us as summer was getting too hot to be outside everyday.) Then, of course, we went over to Daddy's store for lunch.
And since this post is really an update on Jack, I will leave you with one more picture of my sweet little boy. I just love him so much!
