Cow Appreciation Day 2013

12 July 2013

Today was Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A...did you make it over to your local CFA today?!? Did you dress like a cow?!? This is the third year that I have made a cow costume for Cow Appreciation Day...and I am more than happy to say that this time I was not the one wearing it. I am certain that in the future (probably as soon as next year) I will be donning a cow costume again, but being 37.5 weeks pregnant is not the time that one wants to look any more like a cow. ;)

First, let's take a look back at my CAD costumes of the past....let's start with 2011, when I was pregnant also, but I was working, so it was a part of my job to dress the part. Also, I wasn't quite as pregnant...I think around 33 weeks or so.
That year I bought some white scrub pants and a white maternity shirt and appliqued a whole bunch of cow spots all over them. I actually made two of these costumes, one for another girl who worked with me. I can't say I just loved being the pregnant cow, but CAD is a ton of fun, so it was worth it.
Now, let's take a look at CAD 2012. Fortunately, I was not pregnant this year.
This time I bought some cow fabric and made some pants and an apron-style top. Karis had a cow outfit on, but she was at home with my mom while I was working. It isn't anything that I made, just something we were given. But, I never did get a picture of her with me in it because there was a diaper mishap by the time I got home that day. Oh, well.
Now, cut to 2013 when I am not currently or at least not technically working for CFA, although I feel like I work for them in a support role. :) This time, I decided my precious Baby Girl needed to be dressed up, because she would look so cute. So, I made her a dress. This morning when we got dressed I took her out on the balcony to take pictures. She really likes to be in control of the camera, and this is what happened when I wouldn't let her take the pictures. Just in case you thought I was 'mother of the year' Karis is here to assure that I am most definitely not. Just keeping it real here, folks.
So, we put that idea to rest and got on with our day. It was a yucky, rainy day, so I had decided that we were going to go to the children's museum before heading up to CFA to see Daddy.
Apparently everyone else in all of MB with a young child had the same idea. There were hundreds of people in the not-so-big museum.
Fortunately, that didn't stop Karis from having a fun time.
She got lots of comments on her dress while we were playing and a few people said, 'oh, are you going to Chick-fil-A after this?!?'
After playing at the museum, we headed to the mall to see Daddy. Yeah, like I said before, all of MB had the same plans as us today. The mall was beyond packed. We saw John for .3 seconds while he was running around. There was NO where for us to sit in the food court, so we ended up having a picnic in the back of the van.
After we got home from lunch, I tried again to take pictures using the real camera and not just my phone.  I decided to just let her do her own thing and play and I would catch a few pictures of her in action.
Things seem to go a lot better when I take this approach to taking pictures with her. I'm not sure why I have never made a traditional pillowcase dress before for Karis. I have made what I call a 'modified pillowcase dress/top' but not the traditional style until now.
I made this one on Wednesday during her nap time. I tried to make it big enough, or at least with enough room, that she can wear it again next year. I think we achieved that. Even if she grows a crazy amount, it can still work as a top.
I think she totally rocked the look. Let's be honest, not everyone looks so darn cute as a cow.
Oh, this girl, she is my joy. I just absolutely adore her...and feel blessed beyond measure that I get to spend my days with her.
We have a very sweet neighbor here at our new condo who gave us this little old car for Karis to play with. She has some grandkids who had been visiting and she had picked it up at a garage sale for them, and no one was using it any longer. Karis loves to scoot around out on the balcony with it.
So, there you have it....a look at Cow Appreciation Days present and past. As well as the evolution of our outfits for the occasion. Who knows what I will come up with next year, since Jack will need something too! (I'll leave with you a picture of Karis singing while riding her car around.) :)
