Monday After the Masters

06 May 2013

A few weeks ago John and I got to spend a very fun and extremely rare day together at an event held every year here in Myrtle Beach, Monday After the Masters. It's a celebrity pro-am golf tournament hosted by Hootie and the Blowfish. If you are as out of touch as I am, you may have though that Hootie and the Blowfish weren't together anymore, I sure didn't...but apparently that's not true. Darius Rucker does have a thriving career in country music which seems to be taking his time these days, but he still has strong connections with his blowfish. :)

We got VIP passes to the event because his store was providing food on the 18th hole. I joined along, so that I could help him out, and so that we could hang out together. My parents came down and spent a few days with us and watched Karis for the day...which is why this was so rare for us. No one has watched Karis for us since we lived in Asheville, so it was definitely different. But, we loved it....we had so much fun together and we got to meet a lot of cool people. I thought I'd share some of them with you.

First up, we met Pat Green. John and I love Pat Green. We went to a concert of his at the Orange Peel back in Asheville years and years ago when we were dating, and it was so much fun. Pat is on the right and the guy on the left, I have no idea?!?
This is John with Chris DiMarco, he's a golf pro...and a UF alum, like John.
We didn't get a picture with Jim Cantore, but I made sure that John got a picture of him. He was wearing his "Loud Mouth" pants...as were a LOT of people at this tournament. (Yes, John Daly was there too). However, these pants were exceptionally loud! Honestly, when we got to the clubhouse and were getting breakfast first thing that morning, we passed right by Jim Cantore about 3 or 4 times before I realized it was him. My eyes couldn't get past the pants. Just picture him in the middle of a hurricane wearing those! Yeah, in case you didn't catch it, Jim Cantore is the guy from the Weather Channel...he's always the one right smack dab in the middle of the hurricanes with 80mph winds nearly blowing him over.
Here he is with Dustin Johnson...another professional player. He was like the hometown hero of the day. Dustin went to college at Coastal Carolina University, which is about 10 minutes down the road from us...so people were ALL about him! We didn't know that, at least I didn't, all we knew is that he's a fabulous golfer.
Oh, and Jim Furyk...a fabulous pro golfer. If you know golf at all, you've heard of Jim Furyk. He was a very nice guy.
And another big name in the golf world, Davis Love. I have to say, he is just so cute! I told John I kinda had a crush on him, to which John said, "yeah, he's a cute guy!" He was very nice as well.
Of course everyone knows Dan Marino. I didn't get in a single picture all day, but if there was one opportunity that John and I were both kicking ourselves for not taking advantage of, it was him. Dan Marino asked me lots of questions about the baby, noticing my burgeoning belly. He asked if he could touch my belly so that Jack would be an awesome football player. I was happy to oblige! When else does something like that happen to you?!? I swear he's even staring at my belly in the picture. Ha!
There were many more celebrities and professional golfers that we met, we just didn't take more pictures. Just to name a few: Wayne Gretzsky, Johnny Damon, Gary Valentine, Alfonso Riberio (otherwise known as Carlton Banks), Joey Fatone, and Michael Waltrip.

After the tournament we went home and had dinner with Mom, Tony, and Karis. Then, we had an even more unusual treat....John and I went back out. Yall, Karis just turned 20 months old and there have probably been 2 times in her entire life that I was not a part of the putting her to bed process. In both of those cases, John did it. We have never had a babysitter at night, in her whole life, and had someone else put her down for the night. I know, that's crazy, but it's a product of the circumstances of our lives these past 20 months. So, in case you hadn't put two and two together, this means we also had not been on a date of any kind in her entire life. This wasn't a typical 'date', but we'll let it count for something. :)

Hootie & the Blowfish were hosting a concert at the House of Blues, so we went to it. It was so much fun, and fun to enjoy just being out together. After H&tB played for a while, every musician (and some that aren't musicians) came out to sing as well. Here's H&tB.
This is when Pat Green and Patrick Davis (he's a singer/song-writer) were on stage.
Anyone watch The Voice? This was Javier Colon, the winner of the first season. He played in the tournament as well. Such a great voice!
Gary Valentine came and sang...as well as John Daly, those were probably the two non-musicians that took the stage. Edwin McCain, Thomas Rhett, and Jack Ingram came out to sing us a song or two as well. It was a fun night...and I'm so glad that we went.
